Step 1 – Plan a Budget
Establish a general budget for your new home to determine what you are comfortable spending. Knowing your spending limits and developing a home building budget will go a long way towards keeping you out of financial trouble on your project, especially during the preparation of your plans and specifications. Your final “working” budget will be developed when you complete the cost estimating process.
Step 2 – Location, Location, Location
Where do you want to build your new home? Canebrake Builders can build on your lot or help you find a site on which to build your new home. We can recommend sites to visit and will carefully explain what size home will complement a particular site. Many clients fall in love with a particular house style. We will work with you to find the perfect site to complement and accommodate the style of house of your dreams. The right property is out there, and together we’ll make it happen!
Step 3 – Initial Planning
Once you find a site or decide to build on your own lot, the plan/building process begins.
Maybe you already know what type of home you want to build or you wish to select from our available floor plans. If you choose one of our floor plans, Canebrake Builders can alter any of our plans to fit your needs and make it your own. During this stage, we will ask what option and materials you wish to use in your home and provide you with detailed specification sheets that will be part of the contract.
Once the specifications are finalized and we know what you want to build, we will enter into an agreement. This initial planning will allow us to work with you before entering into construction.
Step 4 – What’s It Going To Cost?
Once you’ve settled on a budget that suits your means, you’re ready to determine the total cost for your project, including the land, your home, and site development costs. Identifying these three items is crucial to choosing a home that fits your finances, as well as your needs and wants.

You are presented with a well-drafted contract which clearly sets out the work to be done, the price to be paid for the work, and the terms and conditions of payment.
Together you will review your selections, review your home plans and the building process. You sign the agreement and our teams go to work making your dream home a reality!
Step 6 – Construction Begins
The fun begins. You will get important contact information and have an opportunity to ask any questions throughout the construction phase. Form site preparation, foundation and framing through mechanicals, interior and exterior finishes, every step is quality-assured by Canebrake Builders.
